THE DIVOT
President’s Message Spring 2009 Edition

Dear Members, Friends, and Fellow Golfers:
Well that was a long winter! Even though my skiing does make the white stuff tolerable I must say I was getting just a little tired of even the nicest looking powder. Besides this is the 50th year of the Brooklea so let’s see some green stuff already.
We have some 50th promotions and celebratory events lined up for this year that I am sure the Brooklea team will make well known to you. Back in 1984 we did the twenty-fifth and then in 1999 we had the fortieth anniversary party. This time we have our seasoned professional Brooklea team ready to really pull off another wonderful event. This is the third Brooklea anniversary that I have had the honour to be involved with during the last thirty years. I am struck by what a wonderful blessing I have had in supportive clientele, loyal and conscientious staff, and of course loving family.

This year we have Justin Cummings coming back to Brooklea as our new Golf Shop Manager. We all know that Justin will do an outstanding job in this our 50th year. I am also happy to report that Karina has decided to come back for another year as Food and Beverage manager. The rest of our long serving experienced management team is again back to make the Brooklea even better. Barbara, Marlon, Teresa, Rico, Brenda, Christel, Karina, Justin and the rest of the Brooklea staff are committed to your golfing enjoyment.

Here’s to another 50 years!

Turf Corner
by Marlon Gieseler
With the wet weather last fall not a lot of projects were attempted. We did cut some dangerous trees down as well as dig up some wet areas and replaced native soils with a sand mix. Hopefully we will have better weather this year. I have plans for more projects this coming fall.
At the time of writing this I've only been able to look at a couple of greens to see how they wintered and they look fine. I will be able to walk the course soon and get a better look at everything.
Some early reports around Ontario indicate that there was some turf loss at some golf courses. From what we can see things look pretty good at Brooklea so far.
All grounds crew members from last year are returning which is always great news. I would like to replace one of the machines we use to cut around trees and mulch leaves. With any luck we will get off to a good start to the season which would help make this possible.
Welcome back to another great year of golf.
Yours truly,

Marlon Gieseler

Golf Shop Talk
I would like to welcome you to our 50th golf season. Although this will be my first season as the Golf Shop Manager many of you already know who I am as I have been part of the golf shop staff for the past 2 years. I am honoured to have been appointed the new Golf Shop Manager. After years of schooling I graduated a year ago from Fanshawe College in the Golf and Recreation Club Managers program, I am eager to introduce new ideas and bring my passion for the game into the shop. I have been a golfer from a young age and I have never turned down a game since.
The main question I must ask is when will this snow ever leave?! I know the itchiness we all have these days is not from the dry, long winter we have had, but we are itching to get back onto those beautiful greens. But before we hit those greens, a stop in the new and improved golf shop would be very beneficial. For the upcoming 2009 season we have made some changes and brought in some new lines into our shop. We look forward to pleasing all the needs of every golfer who walks through our doors. Please do not hesitate to ask any of our professional golf shop staff for assistance.
Being our 50th year anniversary we are offering great deals on merchandise, apparel, memberships and green fees. If you are interested in saving money this season on green fees or carts, one of the smartest ways is with Brooklea Golf & Country Club’s Ticketrack program. Ticketrack allows you to buy now and save money in the future! Tickets are available in booklets of 10, 25, 50 or 100, valid for two years and are also fully transferable. Why wait? Come into the Golf Shop and share the savings with family and friends.
We look forward to seeing your Happy Golfing faces soon!!

I am really looking forward to seeing everyone. 2009 has such a nice sound to it as it is our 50th Anniversary Year! It brings back such fond memories to me of Mac & Vera Perrin. We spent many hours together and I always enjoyed the stories. Mac told me when he & Vera were married in 1935. Vera was in partnership of a Race Horse “Bye Bye Buck”. They needed a farm to train this horse and Mac needed land to farm sod. The West side (utilizing the existing barn) was perfect for the horse and the North had rich land for sod. So begins the story of Brooklea Golf & Country Club on Hwy 93. Mac loved to golf, Vera loved to cook & entertain Mac was a member at “another course” at that time. One morning he arrived “at the other course” prior to his scheduled Tee off and ……..they booked the Tee sheets and cancelled him out! Whew, not a good move if you knew Mac!
Very upset, he returned to the farm & Vera. “That’s it! We are selling your horse & we are building our own Golf Course”! And they did!!!!! I am very glad they did as I wouldn’t be part of Brooklea’s Team and have the pleasure of knowing all of you today if it wasn’t for Mac & Vera Perrin’s “Love of Golf, Entertainment & Hospitality”!
Think Spring, Think Golf!

As many of you may not know I went away to South America for the winter. It has to be said that as much as I did enjoy my travels, there is something about Brooklea and all of you that couldn’t keep me away. I am back for another season and I am looking forward to our 50th anniversary.
Now that I have more experience as food and beverage manager I hope to make this year even more enjoyable for you than the last. I welcome any suggestions and hope to make Brooklea a second home to you.
Drop into the clubhouse for a visit after your game. I will love to hear all about how your swings are coming along. The nice weather and cold beers are just around the corner. At last! I know that it has been a long winter for many of you. Not to rub it in…
This year our 50th is giving us even bigger reasons to celebrate so please take out your dancing shoes and there will be lots of other surprises for you in store.

THE GOLF CLUB
The winter’s gone and summer’s here,
They say that golf’s the game.
I’ve never tried the sport before,
It’s easy - so they claim.
To start off right you must engage
A Pro of many talents,
And learn the necessary skills
In how to keep your balance.
It is a game of great prestige,
Don’t treat it as a joke.
I heard that if one breaks the rules
It could cause you a stroke!
One thing that’s hard to overcome
Is addressing on the tee,
And getting everything just right
With all eyes watching me.
I take a mighty swing and miss,
Then overhear this chap
Discretely asking players near
If I had a handicap!
At last my shot is near the green.
I think this game is grand,
Until I come up to my ball
And find it in the sand.
Finally I’m up on the green;
I putt and hit the pin,
And told in no uncertain terms
I’ve done another sin!
Some of the players on the course
Are proud of what they score,
Because all across the fairways
I hear them shouting “FOUR”!
But now I reach the 18th hole;
It doesn’t end with sorrow
Because I sink a ten foot putt
To bring me back tomorrow!

Fall Edition 2008
President's Message
Dear Members, Friends, and Fellow Golfers:
Did we have a summer? Well although it was not the summer to write home about, I believe those individuals stoic enough to ignore the weatherman managed to eke out quite a few games despite our wet 2008 golf season.
This year we completed our first purchase and evaluation of an electric golf cart fleet. By all accounts I feel the new vehicles were well received by members and guest fee guests. Although the infrastructure was costly to install we can do our bit for global warming. Please let me know your views.
The Turf department took delivery of new mowers, and a modern sprayer. This has enabled them to deliver an even better golf product for your enjoyment. The new equipment has added to productivity which has helped us improve playability in our traps as well as other regular maintenance tasks. Marlon and his capeable crew have again produced an award winning golf course.
Daryl Cramm left his job as golf shop manager to take a position in his field of endeavor, but has remained with us in a part time position. Gary Jeffrey our CPGA Head Golf Professional and Director of Instruction took over Daryl's former duties. Gary is doing an admireable job especially when one considers he had to take over the position at the same time he was getting married and in the middle of the season. Justin Cummings has been very instrumental in the success of the golf shop this year and Gary has been grateful for his help.
Teresa is aggressively attracting business to Brooklea and keeping everyone up to date with the ever changing function and event requirements.
Our new computer system has meant a large investment in IT and has meant a large learning curve for the staff. The software company has ended support for our old system, which worked great, and has foisted a new system upon us with the usual bugs that has been challenging for all of us. This has been especially true for Brenda Throop our bookkeeper and office manager. We will be working on the system this winter and we hope to have the system working and integrated to the Brooklea standards long before the start of the 2009 golf season.
Enrico, Chrystal and the staff in the kitchen have continued to deliver good quality food and are working hard to build the restaurant business along with Karina and her staff. The Friday Night buffet has remained busy and the new wine list Karina instituted has been well received.
Our beverage or Pargo cart staff of Francine, Laura and Erin has again done a bang up job looking after our golfers at Brooklea and we appreciate their efforts.
Bob and Reola have continued to look after assorted maintenance tasks and special projects. Bob did a great job of the refurbished patio and preparatory work for the new golf cart infrastructure.
Barbara continues her decorating/upgrading as well as Junior Golf Camp, Health & Safety, and inspecting duties. I think the new couches and martini chairs supplied by Simply Country look great!
Karina has put in almost a full season as Food & Beverage Manager. Our Patrons have given glowing comments about her Hospitality and Customer Service. Laura, Katherine and Lynn have continued to work hard at the Brooklea and have made a difference. I am quite the proud Father.
While golfing at the Shepherd's Trust in Kleinburg, two different golfers approached me to tell me how much they liked Brooklea and how special our staff is. I cannot tell you how good that made me feel.
The Brooklea's Fall Membership Special is now in full swing. As always your membership dues are payable before you begin your first game of golf in 2009.
Thank you for your patronage in 2008. We appreciate your business.

The golf season was obviously a wet one. Water requirements for the course were the lowest in years. The property stayed in good shape throughout the season. The following projects will be done this fall: Aerifying, verti-cutting, filling bunkers with sand, drainage and cutting trees down should be completed with minimal disturbance to your golf enjoyment. A 300 gallon sprayer was purchased in July making the spraying of fairways more accurate and fast. It has a computer on board that regulates the proper rate more accurately. All front or back Fairways can be sprayed in 2 Hours & 30 minutes.
The bunkers were hand raked with the long orange maintenance rakes eight times this year and made a huge improvement in quality.
A new garden was built near # 16 tee in order to beautify this area. The plan is to enlarge this garden next year to rectify thin pot holes in this vicinity.
Have a great fall, golfing.
Yours Truly,
Marlon Gieseler

As we are winding up the summer portion of our season, the fall outlook looks great for weather & golf. Let's make October and November our best ever. As some of you already may know, I have taken over for Daryl Cramm. Daryl has left to take on a new role at one of our local banks, The National. We wish him the best and a BIG thank you for his efforts over the past few years. You will notice that presently we are having our "end of summer sale" in the Golf Shop. Save more on our already competitive prices on all golf items. I would like to thank all members and especially the Men's & Ladies Committees for being very hospitable. Also, a special "Thank You" to all of the League Chairs for their dedication and hard work. Don't forget, your friends who are thinking of joining the Club for next year. If you refer them, for the balance of the year they will have the opportunity to save on the initiation fee for a Platinum Membership.

I just recently was able able to get my head out of the sand trap for a breath of air & fore the "Luv of Golf", I realized I needed a sweater to start the day! The 2008 season is going by way too fast. October & November are such beautiful Golf & Wedding months. I certainly hope we are able to enjoy temperatures in the high 20's for a while longer. Assure that you don't miss one day of fun here at Brooklea!
The Tuesday Nite Ladies League was a huge success this year. Rotating "Nines" weekly not only gave a nice variety for the Ladies, it helped other golfers play around too. Christine Forsyth is amazing with the Newsletter! Informative, funny, well written and lots of Golf tips. The bio's really are "sic". Each week a ladies name is drawn & she submits her Bio to go into the newsletter. What a great way to get to know more about people without appearing nosy!
Swick Bauman Insurance & Financial Services really "birdied" with the Charity Tournaments this year! Their participation in the "Passports" was an excellent idea & very well received. On Wednesday September 17th at the Eagle Academy, three players from each of the participating Tournaments tested their skills in a cash prize for "Closest to the Pin Contest". Swick Bauman donated a cheque to Three Charities following the event.
Christmas is coming and to assure you are not disappointed, book your Company or Family gathering soon. There are limited dates available. As many of you are aware, it is my first year as the Food & Beverage Manager and I am sure you can imagine that it has been quite a different experience from the Pargo Cart. I would like to thank all of the friendly faces that I have seen around the club which has made the experience much more enjoyable.
It has been a busy season in the Clubhouse once again. It seems that love is in the air with all of the weddings that we have over the summer and there are even more to come in the Fall. I hope to see more of you in the Fall granting that the weather makes up for the rainy Spring and early Summer we have had. If you have any suggestions about ways to improve anything just let me know and I will be happy to try and make the appropriate changes for a more enjoyable experience at the Brooklea.
I have been able to take advantage of golfing at several "higher" end courses this year and I have been proud of the job that Brooklea and it's staff do.
The first snow fall is sadly approaching so take the opportunity and get out and golf while you still can. Don't forget to come in for a pint or a coffee after your game. Enjoy the rest of your golf season!

Once again I will have to apologize for the delay in Food & Beverage statements. By now everyone should be aware that we, not by choice, had to implement a new computer system for the course. Unfortunately the change happened two days before opening. The learning period has caused a number of problems along with the delay of statements. I hope to have them prepared shortly and if you discover any discrepancies, please feel free to contact me.
If you haven't been able to visit the Clubhouse and still have a Food & Beverage Credit on your account, you may consider our famous Sunday Brunch. Remember the credit expires at the end of the 2008 Golf Season and cannot be carried forward to the following year.
Anyone wishing to make a payment on their account may do so at the Golf Shop.
Brooklea's Credit Policy: Accounts that have not been paid within 45 days of the billing date will be placed inactive and Tee Times will not be able to be booked until the account has been brought back to the current balance.
If you would like to discuss this or any other accounting related subject, please feel free to contact me. Enjoy the remainder of the season

It has been an interesting season thus far with the ever changing weather & so much rain. Our membership is down to 47 but weekly participation is excellent with 40 - 42 players most Wednesday mornings.
Our weekly low net competitions have produced some great winning scores (59, 60 & 61) giving new meaning to the name "Sand Bagger". Our monthly lunches have been well attended (75 %) and weekly participation in the 50/50 draws has been excellent!
Match play competition is winding down with Dave Johnson winning the "A" flight and two Bob's - Lowe and Fortin playing off for the "B" flight Championship.
Club Championship is right around the corner with 36 holes being played, Aug 20 & 27th there will be four flights with low net and gross championships declared.
Many thanks to Executive members: Gerry Payne, Claude Henning, Ernie Cowden and Art Yung and a special thanks to Fred Earle and Jim McGregor who came out of retirement to work with us again this year.
Our members are dedicated - one recent Wednesday morning we experienced 3 or 4 heavy showers between 4:30 and 7:30 am. The sky was dark and overcast with the forcast for a day of rain. I drove to the course thinking I might find 4 or 5 gentlemen hoping to play somehow. To my amazement, I found approximately 25 players raring to go. We did play that morning and it turned out to be a beautiful day. You might call them dedicated-you may wish to call them something else.
We do have a very good group this year. They seem to like our program and have a good social time before, during and after games.
The course has been in great condition again this season and the work of Marlon and his crew plus Gary Jeffrey and his Golf Shop staff is much appreciated.
We always have room for new members. If you are 50 or over and enjoy good golf and fellowship Wednesday mornings, please consider joining us next year. Age is no problem. One of our members (Red Urquart) is older than dirt! (and still plays well)
Enjoy your Golf - It's meant to be!

Hello from the Tuesday Morning Ladies!
Well, another golf season has come and almost gone. I have to admit it was a very strange season this year. I feel like we skipped a month waiting for summer to arrive - but alas it came and went without telling me!
Our schedule this year ended up a little wonky (is that a real word?) due to a couple of ill-timed rain outs causing us to cancel our Team Event, however the majority of our events were played as scheduled.
We have just concluded our Ladies Championship rounds and I would like to congratulate:
Ailsa Robinson Ladies Champion
Lynda McGregor Low Net Champion
Anne Maslen Flight 'B' Low Gross
Kathy Slykerman Flight 'B' Low Net
We have an awesome group of wonderful ladies golfing this year and have welcomed a few new ones. I have enjoyed golfing with you all and hope you will all return next year!
Our closing meeting will be on September 30th. We will enjoy a buffet breakfast at 9:00 am followed by our meeting and presentation of awards. Golf will follow for those who can stay.
Thanks for a wonderful season so far!

The Brooklea Divot Spring Edition April 2008

President's Message

Dear Members, Friends, and Fellow Golfers:
Thank you for your patronage in 2007.
The new golf season is just about ready to go and the staff at Brooklea are very excited. We at Brooklea have been busy getting ready for the new season. We are just putting the finishing touches to a new Brooklea logo. We are hoping to have it beginning to be recognizable for our Fiftieth anniversary year 2009. Yes the Brooklea will be 50 next year. A little younger then me, but still not a kid anymore. Yes the Brooklea is now a mature, well-treed golf course with a slope from the blues of 133 and the best test of golf in our local area. I think our new logo reflects this and the new dawn to our next 50 years.
There have been a lot of changes in the off-season. Clubhouse and Golf Shop renovations, new electric golf car purchases, new turf mowing equipment purchases, new computer and POS upgrades to our technology infrastructure. Marlon and the golf course crew have completed some important projects and we will have new yardage markers to make things a little easier when choosing your clubs this year.
Linda Hoefig has left Brooklea during the winter and we all wish her well in her new endeavours.
We are pleased to announce that Karina Scherloski; a long time Brooklea employee and the daughter of yours truly, has recently graduated Brock University with a degree in Hospitality Administration. She has agreed to be our new Food and Beverage Manager.
We have been fortunate to bring on board the Brooklea Team Gary Jeffrey a CPGA Class "A" golf professional. Gary is a highly respected golf instructor and is a major addition to Brooklea. He is a level 3 certified instructor. For more on Gary click on the staff link on our web page.
Just a reminder, please remember your dues are payable before your first game of golf.
Michael, Barbara and Family
Welcome to another golf season at Brooklea. Last fall was a very productive project season. A new electric golf cart charging, storage pad is going to be built near #1 tees. Studies show electric power is the way to go. Twenty carts will be the starting point and the success of that will be accessed at year-end. Electric carts are less expensive to run, quieter and more environmentally friendlier than gas.
Many projects were completed this past fall. The huge Maple tree on the left side of #17 green was cut down due to the danger of old limbs falling off and landing in the bunker. Two rotten poplars near the ravine by #26 green were taken down. Twenty-five drain holes were constructed in bunkers that drain poorly. All holes were filled with new bunker sand. #18 apron was augured numerous times and filled with topdressing sand to help drain that poor area. New bunker sand was added to both left and right side bunkers by the green on #10 and left side green bunker on #15. The flagpole on #26 was lengthened so golfers can better see from the tee. A new cart path was installed from Driving Range fence to #26 bridge in order to give golf cart traffic a safer path to follow. Number 12-cart path was extended from the tee towards the green to take out the bumps. Number 7 cart path was extended to take away ugly cart wear area. A gate was installed left of #20 green to give access to Brooklea property to the south, which will be used to dump brush instead of crossing highway 93 with these tricky loads.
On the equipment front Brooklea has purchased some great new equipment. A Toro Groundsmaster 3500D and a Groundsmaster 4000D as well as a new sprayer. This will improve the cut and health of the turf and help our crew give you the turf that as a Brooklea customer you deserve.
From the Grounds Crew, have a great golf season!

Its the beginning of another exciting season of golf here at Brooklea Golf & C.C. Spring hopefully, will soon be in full swing, as will many other things here at the Course.
I would like to start by welcoming back all of our returning members to what I hope will be another great (weather) year of golf. I would also like to extend a special welcome to all of the new members who have signed on for the 2008 season. Hopefully by now you have played a few games down South and loosened up those golfing muscles.
It is going to be a very exciting year with lots of new things happening within the Club. Please note that we have been able to purchase more aggressively this year and you will be extended the benefit of pricing that meets or beats the major retailers in town. The biggest change you will notice (aside from the new paint job) will be in the amount of product that will be in the shop this season. We were able to find some good deals at the buying show last fall and we will be passing on the savings to you throughout the summer. New this year, the Golf Shop will have an extensive amount of demo equipment for you to try, before you make that big purchase. Please stop by and visit the returning staff, and meet our recent recruits in the golf shop. They will be excited to show you the new products for 2008.
We have initiated a new Membership category this year. It is called Pay as you Play Membership. The Membership dues are $399.00 plus GST. Every time you play after joining, you pay the price of regular green fee rates. For further information, please ask at the Golf Shop. I am sure you are all familiar with Ticketrak, which is another great frequent player program.
Also feel free to stop in to say Hello and ask any questions you have concerning Tee Times, Lessons, Leagues and especially Ticketrack. (This season we have even greater savings for Brooklea Members). We are here to help!
Heres to a great 2008 Golf season!
Keep it in the short grass.

The Brookleas award winning Sunday Brunch has been quite busy and is off to another scrumptious start. Remember to make your reservations early especially for Mothers Day. Our Friday night buffet featuring roast beef reopens on May 9th. It was well-received last year and made for some great evenings of fellowship. Almost all of our award winning staff from last year will be returning again this year. There have been some minor renovations in the clubhouse again this year. The upstairs has been repainted and the downstairs ceiling has been spruced up. We are also upgrading and changing to a new POS system this year. Please be patient with us as we learn this new technology. Once we have mastered it the service will be faster and more efficient. We are all excited for this new golf season. Come and see us soon.

The weather leading up to mid April has been terrible, we should have been on the course 2 weeks ago! I am sure we all need a change and are looking forward to the start of the golf season.
We have already started the new season in a positive way by filling the vacant kitchen position by a conscientious candidate. We believe this will help us provide our best to you. The strength of the kitchen team was on prominent display at the MDBWA gala and at the Pink Ribbon Gala where we were honoured by the compliments received.
Our seasoned Brooklea culinary team for 2008 consists of Chris Bilbao, Linda Gilmore, and myself. All of our team has been at Brooklea for many years.
New in the kitchen this year is the fact that we have accepted a grand total of 6 apprentices turning the Brooklea into almost a cooking academy. This will be a challenge for me, but a gastronomic experience to you since I will be delving into all the culinary fundamentals in order to teach the new Brooklea protges.
Again I want to remind you to contact me through Theresa Alphonse Grattan if you have any special menu requests for any of your personal events.

Another season is finally upon us. I trust that all you gentlemen have been patient in waiting for a rather difficult winter to come to an end. Ill certainly understand if you havent been.
Our 2007 Club Champion low net was Dave Latondress (130). Dave also won the low gross with 158 for 36 holes.
Flight winners besides Dave were Owen Trunk, Tony Szabo and Tom Marion. The match play champion was Bill Hart who defeated Gary Madgett in the final. We had a new competition last year Most Improved Player. The winner was Bob Squibb who reduced his handicap by 30% from 13 to 10. Congratulations to all the above gentlemen.
We have 3 new executive members this year Ernie Cowden, Wilf Hurdle and Gerry Payne. Leaving the executive are Fred Earl, Mike Gadoury and Jim McGregor. A warm welcome to the new members and many thanks to our departed guys for many years of excellent work.
Our 2008 season will start Wednesday May 7th with coffee, donuts and fellowship at 8 a.m., golf at 9 a.m.
We play every Wednesday through to October 1st. Shotgun starts every week. Weekly competitions, match play, club championship and much much more.
New members are very welcome, Im told were a great bunch of guys to play with.

Happy Spring Brooklea Ladies!
Are you all excited about another Golf Season! I cant believe how quickly the snow is melting; maybe we will be golfing before June after all.
The Tuesday morning ladies league is made up of a group of ladies of all abilities who join together to enjoy the game we all love! Throughout the summer we enjoy a variety of different styles of play such as eclectic, keeping track of our putts, better ball, flag match, and our ever popular Team event with final day festivities.
We do a modified shotgun start each Tuesday Morning, which enables us all to be done at roughly the same time so we can socialize afterwards.
This year we will be heading to Midland Golf & country club as their guests for a fun game and luncheon. We look forward to the opportunity to make new friends and renew acquaintances with our fellow Midlanders.
We will start the season with our Annual Opening Meeting on:
Tuesday May 6th, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. in the Eagles Roost
The meeting will be followed with a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. & then.

THE DIVOT
President’s Message Fall 2009 Edition
Dear Members, Friends, and Fellow Golfers:
Thank you for your support in 2009. The beginning of the year brought some challenges to me personally and I thank the management and staff of Brooklea along with my wife Barbara and family for stepping up to the plate and helping me through my injury.
Marlon and his team provided a great golf course again this year. In a time of economic turmoil and budget cutting Marlon and his crew performed with enthusiasm and hard work in providing the best in golf conditions in our area.
We had a great celebration on our 50th. I thank all those who could be with us on that special day.
The members, golfers, organizations, clubs, service groups, families and tournaments that supported us again this year have my thanks and promise that we will always try to do our best for you. If anything is not quite right please let me know and we will try to fix it if possible.
We are trying to keep prices under control and to a large measure have done so, but if we intend on keeping irrigation systems, mowers, carts, and other equipment modern and efficient we must keep our balance sheet strong.
A course of our calibre is more expensive to keep this way than others that may not have our same standards. We trust you will understand and appreciate the need for rate increases in the future that will be dictated by rising costs and increasing government regulation.
Baby boomers turn 65 next year. Their impact will be huge on the golf industry. We will need to reintroduce our initiation fee again in the near future. Anyone that knows of anyone or is considering a golf membership might think of buying one this fall as the terms of the HST has not been set. Pro rating of the tax portion of a year-round membership is possible.
Green fee packages sold through ticketrack if purchased now will not be subject to the provincial 8 percent tax portion of the HST and will be sold at 2009 prices for golf in 2010 and 2011 as ticketrack is good for two years. You save in two ways. Ticketrack is also good for cart rentals and the range.
Please remember that all memberships must be paid prior to your first game of golf. Again thank you for your support.
Here’s to another 50 years!

We purchased a new rotary mower to mulch leaves and go tight around trees.
Some drainage, irrigation upgrades and tree removal will be done this fall.
Also, Gary Marchment is moving to Pembroke. He cut tees & aprons for the

Enjoy the Fall Golfing & I look forward to seeing you in early Spring 2010.

GAO Handicap System
Year End Reminders
We would like to take this opportunity to remind you all that our Active Handicap Season ends for score posting from Ontario golf courses on October 31. We ask that you please notify your members via your newsletters and other means (sign on the Handicap Terminal etc, etc, etc). This is important to help maintain the integrity and accuracy of the Handicap Factors at your club. This simply means that rounds of golf played in Ontario after October 31 cannot be posted for Handicap purposes. This does not mean your members stop posting scores entirely (IE if they go to Florida, Arizona for the winter etc, etc, etc those scores still need to be posted).

The Golf Shop Fall Sale is winding down... Almost everything has been marked down to clearance prices such as clothing, shoes, and golf clubs. Pop by the shop to see our outstanding deals!!
The West 9 and Driving Range closed October 13th.
  • 2010 Membership renewals and new memberships are available for processing in the Golf Shop. Buy now and lock in your cost of golf for 2010.
  • Now is the best time to buy ticketrack ever. Lock in your cost of green fee golf for 2010 and 2011 or give some as gifts to your favorite golfer. The more you buy the more you save. Even better escape the 8 percent provincial tax portion of the HST for two years as well as receive bulk discounts. The more you buy the more you save. Fully transferable. Remember ticketrack is good for carts and the range as well.
Management staff would like to thank all the hard working summer employees that made the course run so smoothly this season. Good luck back at school!

Thank you to all of you who were able to participate with us at our 50th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday July 19th. Even the Un-cooperative weather didn’t put a damper on the planned festivities. The Golf tournaments on the Championship & West Courses, Demo Days, BBQ & Hole in One Event (Compliments of Bourgeois Motors) at the Driving Range. The Champagne Toast while cheering on 52 year old Tom Watson to become the oldest golfer to win the British Open was standing room only in the Golfers Lounge! Our MC for the Day Jacques Brunet was instrumental in the power point presentation of Brooklea’s 50 years of history. Chef Enrico & his amazing team certainly excelled with their ‘Premium Sunday Brunch’ & mid-afternoon BBQ on the Golfers Lounge Patio. The Laughter & Camaraderie, Great Entertainment with Adrien Robitaille & the Andrew Talbot Band were also contributors to the success of the day. I lost my voice for two days just being the Concierge for 4 hours! Yes, I can take a HINT!
I just ‘LUV’ the new Pub Furnature in the Golfers Lounge! Do you think I mistook the table for a couch? NAH! I knew exactly what I was doing!
HST
The Provincial Government and the Federal Government will combine the 8% Ontario Sales Tax & the 5% GST to a single 13% value-added sales tax.
This new tax will impact the Golf Industry in Memberships, green fees & Multi-Game Packs (Ticketrack). It is to ‘Every” Golfers advantage to purchase their Membership and Ticketrack as soon as possible. The provincial government has now indicated that 2010 memberships will be prorated for the HST if purchased after May the 1st. After July 1st all of the memberships will be HST applicable. One thing is for sure buy your green fees and memberships now and there is no HST tax. On ticketrack green fee purchases you will save the 8% tax for 2 years as well as pay 09 prices for greenfees used in 2010 and 2011.

Hello Golfers. Another season has come to an end. We have been lucky to have had such a nice September. It seems that the frost is already nipping at our finger tips.
Unfortunately the next time we will see most of you again will not be until next year. I would suggest starting up some type of winter Frisbee golf in snow shoes although I am not sure that the participation would be very good.
It has been such a pleasure serving our mixed, men’s and ladies leagues this year and all of our members. Just a reminder if any of you do not feel like cooking or still have some food credit left please come and enjoy our Sunday Brunch. Sunday Brunch will be open until December 20th, 2009.
If we do not see you until next golf season enjoy your holiday season. Although, I’m sure that some of you will be fortunate enough take part in some golf down south this winter. As for the rest of us we should drink lots of hot chocolate and try to keep warm.

Brooklea Morning Ladies Captain
Remington Golf & Kissimmee Bay CC, Florida
Hello Brooklea Members, I am writing as a “Privileged Member Golf Group” member down in Florida. If you ‘Brooklea Members’ are travelling this winter, come & see us!
We are located in Kissimmee Florida, 10 minutes south of the Orlando International Airport. We did service some of the groups’ membership last year. We have a $65.00 rate for Brooklea Members to play at our course when the rates are usually $85.00.
It is always a great time of year for me seeing and servicing the Canadian Clientele! I grew up working with George & Terry at Hidden Lakes in Burlington, where I got my start
Hope to see you on the links,
Mark Farrow
